Technical Manager / Refit Project Manager – Large Yacht Management Company
A well-established and rapidly expanding yacht management company is seeking an experienced Technical Manager / Refit Project Manager to join their growing team.
Due to increasing demand for refit management and yachts entering technical management, the company is expanding its technical department and is looking for a commercially certified Chief Engineer with strong large yacht and commercial experience.
This is a senior role involving significant client interaction and responsibility across large yachts, complex refits, and potentially an owner’s fleet.
The position can be Monaco-based or fully remote for the right candidate.
The Role
The successful candidate will support the technical department across both refit project management and technical management, depending on operational requirements.
Responsibilities may include:
• Managing major refit projects for large yachts (typically 80m+)
• Overseeing technical management of yachts within the fleet
• Coordinating shipyards, contractors, captains, and onboard engineers
• Acting as the primary technical contact for owners and owners’ representatives
• Managing project budgets, timelines, and contractor performance
• Supporting yachts through refits, repaints, and class survey periods
• Ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and on schedule
• Regular communication with captains, senior HODs, owners’ offices and owners
The company is currently seeing a strong increase in refit activity and yacht management enquiries, including potential involvement with a large owner’s fleet including yachts over 100m and supporting vessels.
Refit Projects
Refit projects are typically carried out in European shipyards (Germany, Italy and France) and may range from 4–8 months depending on scope.
During refit periods, the Technical Manager / Project Manager will spend significant time in the yard, with travel home possible during quieter phases of the project.
Technical Management
When operating in a technical management capacity, the role will involve remote management of yachts with periodic visits to vessels and occasional visits to the Monaco office.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a senior, well-presented and commercially minded professional with excellent communication skills and the ability to deal confidently with owners and senior stakeholders.
The successful candidate must be a native English speaker who can communicate clearly, confidently and respectfully with Captains, senior HODs, owners’ offices and owners directly.
Qualifications and Experience
Candidates should meet the following requirements:
• Commercially certified Chief Engineer Unlimited
• Seagoing experience as Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer (commercial) OR Chief Engineer (Y1) in the yacht sector
• Alternatively, relevant shore-based experience such as Technical Superintendent, Naval Architect, Class Surveyor, or Shipyard/Refit Project Manager
• Strong commercial background and understanding of large yacht operations
• High level understanding of SOLAS, MARPOL and STCW (as applicable to engineering levels)
• Knowledge of Class rules, IACS unified interpretations, SSC rules and REG Code
• Familiarity with flag administration reporting standards
• Strong refit, project or new build management experience
• Existing yacht industry experience preferred
• Excellent communication and report-writing skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Experience with planned maintenance systems and yacht management software (such as ManageMyVessel – MMV) preferred
• Strong organisational skills, ability to multitask and manage multiple stakeholders
Location
The role can be structured in two ways:
• Monaco-based position with local contract and benefits
or
• Remote UK-based contractor role
Travel will be required to shipyards across Europe and occasionally to the Monaco office.
Package
Salary: €8,000 – €10,000 per month depending on experience and location.

Start Date
Flexible. The company is preparing for upcoming projects and fleet expansion, so the start date may range from immediate to the coming months depending on project timelines.
